Friends and Free Stuff

Day two of my second life turned into a long exploration of various areas with the help of different people. I still wasn't happy with my avatar, so the first thing I did was to try and find some interesting accessories/clothing. I also wanted to try and participate in an event. I started the day by going to a super hero costume contest that happen to be in a mall. I arrived at the event early and decided to look around. One of the first things I found was a free model/picture studio, but I couldn't figure out how to work it so I just browsed around some different stores. Most of the stores were offering different avatar customization and they gave me a few ideas. Some of the stores were pretty racy, like a store selling BDSM equipment. I was particularly interested in a store that sold wings, but I didn't have enough lindens for anything. I stopped by the super hero contest and saw a wonder woman, spider man, batman, and a few others, but it wasn't terribly exciting. After a while I overheard a conversation between a newbie like myself and another player about the different things newbies should do to customize their avatars, so I followed the advice. I went around to various places giving out freebies and found some cool new clothing, accessories, and even wings! It took awhile for me to figure out how to get and use the items, but it was worth it. I then re-did my avatar. Kali now has black wings, a while ribbon dress, black lace gloves, and short black hair. I still don't think that the avatars perfect just yet so changes will probably happen again.
While searching around for free clothes I kept running into information about something called a money tree. Money trees apparently give out money to newbies to help them get stated. I didn't have a lot of money so I wanted to check them out. It's at the first money tree I found that I made my first 'friend'. I was getting my first linden out of the tree we I noticed someone was talking to me. I almost missed the comment (it's really hard to tell if someone in the game is talking to you unless they say your name). She was fairly new to the game as well, but told me and sent me a portal to another money tree with lots of cash. I asked her how she had sent the portal and we got into a conversation about starting out in the game. She sent me an invitation to be her friend, and I accepted. She also gave me a positive rating!
At the second money tree I also met more helpful people. They told me about something called a moneyball. You can go to different places with a moneyball and enter a drawing to win large sums of money. They recommended a place called "The Edge" which I'll have to visit on another trip. I also asked about getting a motorcycle and, voilĂ , I had one. They were really great and gave me about 5 different types of motorcycles (I'll have to give one to you David). I also got some other odds and ends from the pair. I didn't even realize that items could be transfered from one person to the other so it was really interesting. I thanked them both and then went for a ride to top off my stay. Goal for next visit: participate in an event (maybe dancing)

Who am I?

My Second Life persona is officially Kali Moonlight. I thought it was weird how there are only a certain number of preselected last names to choose from. Seems to defeat the purpose of creating a persona of your own when so many other characters might share your last name. Anyway, I was lucky that there was a last name I found acceptable. Kali means dark goddess/energy so the last name of Moonlight fits. The first thing I did in the 'world' was to develop my avatar, which is extremely difficult given how many options are available and how many you wish were available that are not. Right now Kali is wearing all black, has purple eyes, and crazy pink hair but that will probably change depending on my mood. I also went through all the newbie tutorials, but there is still a lot to learn! Challenge for the next visit: Actually talk to someone.
